Some pictures I took at Smith Mountain Lake during the week I spent at my family's house there in August 2003. Most were taken one very foggy morning, because it looked really neat.
I visited Gettysburg National Battlefield on July 26, 2003. These pictures didn't turn out so great because it was amazingly bright that day, but they aren't too bad.
I visited Antietam National Battlefield on June 21, 2003. The pictures are mostly of the terrain of the battlefield.
Between December 29, 2002 and January 5, 2003, the same group from the first Dozen Cousins Cruise went on a second cruise. We left from Fort Lauderdale, with stops in Key West, Cozumel, and Costa Maya, with the stop on Grand Cayman cancelled due to weather.
During Spring Break 2002, I went to Dry Tortugas National Park with four friends: Jared, Marc, Antonio, and Josh. Dry Tortugas is 70 miles off of Key West, and is accessible by a high speed catamaran, the Yankee Freedom II. A complete account of the trip is available in my journal.
Between December 29, 2001 and January 5, 2002, I was on a cruise ship in the Caribbean with my mother's side of the family. In total, there were twenty-four of us: two grandparents, five siblings and their spouses, and a dozen grandchildren. We departed from Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, spent a day at sea, and arrived in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Monday afternoon. We spent all day Tuesday in St. Thomas and all day Wednesday in St. Maarten. After another day at sea, we arrived in Nassau, Bahamas on Friday before returning to Fort Lauderdale on Saturday morning.
When I received the Barry M. Goldwater scholarship, NCSU lit the Belltower red in my honor. Matt was making his annual NC inspection tour, so he used his new camera to take these pictures. More information about the Goldwater is available elsewhere on the site.
I went to London for the month of July 2000 with the NC State London Experience Program. In addition to taking classes and doing things in London, I also traveled to Salisbury, Edinburgh, Saint Andrews, Cardiff, Paris, and Oxford.
For NCSSM Special Projects Week 1999 I acted as a student consultant for the Conserve School in Land O'Lakes, Wisconsin. NCSSM's current director, Dr. John Friedrick, would be Conserve's first director. The traveling party was Dr. and Mrs. Friedrick, Elizabeth Hotaling, James Sweeney, Gray Kimbrough, Matt Wagers, and myself. These pictures were taken by James Sweeney.
In October of 1998 I went to Conroe, Texas as one of the delegates from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM) to the National Consortium for Specialized Secondary Schools of Mathematics, Science, and Technology (NCSSSMST) Student Conference entitled The World in 2020. The other three delegates were Gray Kimbrough, Paul Larkin, and Matt Wagers and our sponsors were Mrs. Brinson, from the biology faculty, and Dr. Friedrick, NCSSM's executive director.
For NCSSM Special Projects Week 1998 I traveled with a group sponsored by the NCSSM History Department to Civil War sites. For our presentation, Jonathan Vick, Matthew Lukens, and I designed a web site with pictures and information from out visits, The War Between the States. My sponsor for this project was Mr. Jim Litle. These pictures were taken by Matt Lukens and Jonathan Vick.
