December 21

"Fum, Fum, Fum" is a traditional Catalan carol. The repeated "fum, fum, fum" is probably an onomatopoeia of the sound of an instrument, perhaps the strumming of a guitar. There are a wide variety of English translations which often vary in the first line. You may know it better as "On December five and twenty" or "On this joyful Christmas Day". Many of these alternate lyrics can be found at the links below. They lyrics shown here are those that Sue Hahs remembers best.

This piece is performed by Jay Hahs on tuba and Sue Hahs on trombone. This is Jay's second contribution this year and Sue's third.

Fum, Fum, Fum

Performed by Sue Hahs on trombone and Jay Hahs on tuba

Words and music: Traditional Catalan carol

On December twenty five,
Sing fum, fum, fum!
On December twenty five,
Sing fum, fum, fum!
He is born the Holy Child,
The little babe, the infant mild.
He is born of Virgin birth
and He shall be the joy of earth,
Sing fum, fum, fum!

Little birds fly from the sky,
Sing fum, fum, fum!
Little birds fly from the sky,
Sing fum, fum, fum!
Little creatures great and small,
Come to the stable one and all.
Come and form a tiny nest,
All for the Holy Child to rest,
Sing fum, fum, fum

Little stars that shine above,
Sing fum, fum, fum.
Little stars that shine above,
Sing fum, fum, fum.
See the infant as He sleeps,
He brings to all good-will and peace.
O let the night shine lightly,
With a flame burn clear and brightly,
Fum, fum, fum!
